Q & A
Here is your chance to find out everything that you ever wanted to know about Dr. Juggles. Ask away.
Q: Are you a real doctor?
A: Yes, I am actually a real dentist. Right now, I am serving as a Captain in the United States Air Force at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. That is really close to Mount Rushmore; maybe, you can find that on a map. There most people call me Dr. Harrelson or Captain Harrelson; but every now and then, someone will slip in a Dr. Juggles. I received my D.M.D. (dentist degree) from the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry.
Q: Do you have any other degrees?
A: Yes, I do. I have a high school diploma from Oak Hill Academy in West Point, MS. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. I also have a Masters of Divinity degree from the Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, CA (that is right across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco).
Q: Have you ever been a mascot?
A: No, but I did make it to the last cut of 10 contestants to be Lou Seal, the San Francisco Giants Mascot in 1999. I even got to dance, flip, and juggle on top of the Giants dugout at Candlestick Park while wearing a giant seal costume. It was lots of fun!
Q: How did you learn to juggle?
A: When I was growing up, I got bored while watching a friend play pool. So, I grabbed three pool balls and started tossing and catching them. After a heavy pool ball, hits your head and/or toe a few times, you quickly learn to catch them. I would not recommend learning to juggle this way, I REPEAT, “DO NOT TRY TO LEARN TO JUGGLE THIS WAY FOR THE SAFETY OF TOES EVERYWHERE!”
Q: When did you know that you wanted to be a dentist?
A: Well, I majored in biology in college thinking that I wanted to be in a health profession. I then started working with the youth group at First Baptist Jackson and then at different Centrifuge youth camps across the nation. I did not feel like I was supposed to go to med school and really felt like God wanted to use me somehow not as a senior pastor that preached every Sunday but somehow. So, then I went to seminary in San Francisco and was the youth pastor at First Baptist San Francisco. After getting my Masters of Divinity, I came back to Mississippi and of all of the ministry positions that God placed me in, I was overseeing a community dental clinic. Wow, sometimes God knows things that we don’t even know yet as He slowly puts the puzzle pieces of our life together? I began to see as I ministered to people at the clinic and saw the dentists use their skills to meet people's needs that I could use all of my life experiences and education to make dentistry my ministry and mission. This way when I restore people’s teeth, I can also restore their lives one tooth at a time.
Q: What is your favorite color?
A: Eleven (wait that is a number, but if it was a color, it would be my favorite.)
